Hartbeespoort Activities

An Abundance of Attractions and Activities in Hartbeespoort

It is absolutely wonderful to take a break from your normal, day-to-day routine, get away from work or home and into different surroundings. Take the time to unwind and relax, and then engage in activities which are not always possible in your own area, but most certainly are on hand in and around Hartbeespoort Dam and village.

Have you ever wondered why there are so many diverse activities in which to participate in at Hartbeespoort? Firstly, the fact that the area is such a popular destination must play a major role, and secondly, there is a lot to see, do and experience. This is because the enormous number of attractions are so well supported and very well run; thus the demand exists and continues to do so.

So Near, Yet So Far

Hartbeespoort is an ideal destination for visitors from Gauteng, just less than an hour’s leisurely drive from Johannesburg and less than half an hour from Pretoria, by road. It is easily accessible and the trip from both cities is picturesque, enjoyable and not in the least bit tiring.

Despite its proximity to the city’s hustle and bustle, to which many residents commute for work purposes, Harties is so tranquil, picturesque and unique that it seems to be worlds apart, far, far away from city life. Residents are hospitable and friendly; restaurants and eateries abound, and yet our village does not feel crowded.

This is Where You’ll Find Us

Indeed, this has proved to be the perfect place for our prestigious establishment, a 4 star hotel, wedding, event, leisure and corporate conference venue, offering 60 spacious, private bedrooms, most with various wonderful views. All of the accommodations include tea/coffee making facilities and televisions with select DStv channels, glorious gardens and ample, secure, private parking space.

Start each day with our scrumptious full English breakfast, which is included in the accommodation tariff. Our resident master chef offers guests an excellent dining experience every evening, European cuisine fused with a touch of African inspiration, served in our quaint à la carte restaurant on-site.

Sunday buffet lunches are a delight for the palate, and have become very popular with our valued guests and day visitors to our area – many making the trip from Gauteng, just to enjoy a leisurely, freshly prepared lunch in stunning surroundings.

Conference facilities and meeting rooms are situated away from the main building and hotel, allowing our business visitors privacy, peace and quiet, in which to focus on their agenda without fear of interruptions by tourists and holiday travellers.

The wedding chapel is charming; experienced staff and a wedding coordinator take care of all of the arrangements on the couple’s big day.

Climate and Weather

Lying in a valley basin adjacent to the dam, Hartbeespoort is protected from inclement elements by the proximity of the surrounding Magaliesberg Mountains, which gently slope away from the water’s edge before reaching for the heights of the vast, deep blue African skies.

Summer Showers

During summer’s rainy period, fat raindrops feel almost warm against one’s skin and the weather really isn’t cold at all. After a summer shower, steam rises from wet tarred roads, heated earlier by bright sunshine, while everything smells fresh, clean and renewed. Cicadas sing in the veld, accompanied by rich, varied birdsong.

Brief, Mild Winters

In the relatively brief South African winter, daytime temperatures are mild to warm; it is often possible to be quite comfortable wearing a T-shirt without a jersey or jacket during the day. At night, it may become chilly, but temperatures seldom drop down to the very lowest, single figures, even in mid-winter.

Just a Few of the Numerous Attractions

  • A fully revamped cableway, which takes visitors to the top of one of the Magaliesberg Mountains, offering breathtaking, panoramic views, with food stalls, children’s activities and a playground on-site.
  • Vulture Rehabilitation Centre, where these threatened scavengers of the sky are rehabilitated after trauma or injury, and returned to the wild.
  • Snake and Animal Park, where visitors can see an outstanding collection of snakes, and observe snake handling and seal shows. See the dam and Magaliesberg from a different vantage point – from a ferry boat, which departs from here.
  • Hot-air ballooning provides yet another gorgeous perspective of the dam and its surroundings, very early in the morning.
  • Hiking, abseiling, rock climbing, water sports and many, many more.

Too Many to Mention

Whether guests want to relax, explore and observe nature’s scenic beauty, learn more about animals, shop for curios and mementos, or fancy a few adventure activities, Hartbeespoort has an abundance of literally everything for which one could wish.
